After
9 years of absence, DLG (Dark Latin Groove) comes
back with "Renacer"(Reborn), an album
which is set to place then back in the top popularity
ranks. With the introduction of new singer "Miss
Yaya “and the musical mix of Hip hop, Salsa,
Reggae and R&B, this urban group is determined
to reconquer their Fans, with the launch of their
first single "Quiero decirte que te amo"
(I want to tell you that I love you).
With
a repertoire which sums up the Street beats of the
DLG Movement, according to James DaBarba and Miss
Yaya they bring in this album new improved rhythms.
With the musical support of James DaBarba, one of
the original group members plus the powerful voice
of Miss Yaya, DLG is confident about their comeback.
"We know that this movement awoke a lot of
interest with many Fans back in the 90's, who enjoyed
songs such as 'Morirá','La quiero a morir'and
'Volveré'. Now we bring an album which represents
the 'rebirth' of this musical movement which brings
together different genres" said Miss Yaya
Sergio George, the renowned musical producer who
has brought out his talent working with Marc Anthony,
JLo, Tito Nieves, La India and many other artists,
is the engine behind DLG's rise.
"I believe that Miss Yaya's talent is a key
element for DLG's success like they did it a decade
ago. The work that we are carrying on has had very
positive outcomes and feedback" says Sergio
"As long as there are people who want to make
Music and Fans that support the good Music, the
industry will persevere. It’s an evolution
that has always existed"
So far the Group's comeback has been accepted and
very well received, the work and the touring has
been constant, visiting City after City, which meant
the new album has a bright future.
With the Talent, new album and the support of a
well known producer, DLG will place itself back
in the Fans heart.

The
Adolecents 'Buscame' album is essentially a homage
to late 70’s-early 80’s salsa…
no watered down Salsa here. This album is everything
that made the golden era of FANIA so exciting -
Trombone heavy brass section, intricate arrangements,
great melodies, barrio lyrics. And for the ladies,
a couple of amazing Salsa romantica songs but with
a definite decision to keep the arrangements complex
and interesting. Definetly an exquiste taste of
Salsa at it's best..
If
it wasn't known that this album came out in 2006
It would have definitely been placed somewhere in
the early 80’s. Think Hector Lavoe, Ruben
Blades, Grupo Niche, Eddie Santiago, Gran Combo,
etc…You are probably thinking, some of these
artists do totally different salsa styles... That’s
the point!, this album is super diverse. In fact
it’s so ambitious it could have easily failed
but they didn’t, they 100% succeeded. The
album is consistent, unlike a mayority of Salsa
albums nowadays which have one or two great songs
and a bunch of fillers.
Now at this
point, you are probably asking why you haven’t
heard about this album or any of the songs off it?
Well, if you live in Venezuela, Colombia or Peru
you would have heard it. If you live in the US,
Australia or Puerto Rico you won’t hear it.
Why? Because the fact is Puerto Rico only listens
to Salsa moderna/romantica nowadays (think Victor
Manuelle, Marc Anthony, N’Klabe, etc). Sure
they are good, but there is great new Salsa dura
and Salsa romantica coming out which hardly gets
played.

Though the
bachata genre is pretty young and music lovers are
still getting to know its first generation, the
youthful Dominicanos of Aventura and their huge
fan base are ready to be recognized. 'Generation
Next', the debut album of Dominican quartet Aventura,
marks the beginning of a new era for this Latin
genre. With a little better than ten years between
Juan Luis Guerra's (the first internationally recognizable
Bachata artist) arrival on the major-label scene
and their own, it seems a short time period to be
called a "generation." That said, Aventura's
sound is truly something different than what was
first called Bachata, on Guerra's Bachata Rosa.
The instrumentation remains roughly the same; guitar,
guiro, bongo, voice, and bass, but Aventura's modern
urban influences are noticeable. In the past, bachata
selections have been in the minority, as Dominican
pop artists tend to lean toward Merengue. Not the
case for Generation Next, which places emphasis
on the more traditional Bachata style. Also, the
funk inflections and R&B attitude help define
the identity of a new camp. From this album forward
there will be a notable difference between merengue
and bachata records that are produced on native
soil, and those from Nueva York
About
Aventura
Aventura was
formed in 1994 by a group of teenage boys living
in the Bronx, NY. They were like the thousands of
teenagers who get together to make music in their
parents' den or garage. They liked the music of
their contemporaries, leaning towards R&B, hip
hop and reggaeton. But, with roots in the music
of the Dominican Republic, they also grew up listening
to bachata, the indigenous Dominican genre that's
known as the "music of sorrow or bitterness".
Aventura is
one of the most unique and innovative groups on
the scene today. After more than ten years of sparring
in the music business, these four young, dynamic
guys with a seldom-seen chemistry continue to auto-produce
soulful, original music that gleams with excellence.
They are the first “Bachata-boy band,”
the first band to fuse the essence of Bachata with
R&B, hip hop and other American pop styles;
the first Bachata band to perform in English, Spanish
and “Spanglish.” Aventura is also the
first Bachata group to feature songs that address
serious life situations, delighting fans in the
process, such as “Amor de madre”, "
No lo perdona Dios", “Hermanita”,
“Papi dijo” and “La niña”
amongst others.

Colombian Rock en Español phenomenon Juanes
continued his winning streak with 2007's LA
VIDA ES UN RATICO. Like Juanes's previous
albums, UN DIA NORMAL and MI SANGRE (both
of which achieved colossal international
success), LA VIDA ES UN RATICO is packed
with sharp songwriting, passionate lyrics
and performances, and deft guitar work.
Juanes balances between ballads (the title
track) and rockers ("No Creo En El Jamas"),
mixing in traditional Latin rhythm and no
shortage of radio-ready pop polish. The
lyrics are in Spanish, as usual, but that
hasn't stopped the non-Spanish-speaking
world from responding to Juanes's infectious
music, and it won't here either.
By the time of his
fourth album, La Vida...Es un Ratico, it was
difficult to imagine Juanes being any more
acclaimed or popular. He'd already won
trophy cases of awards, from numerous
Grammy's to France's highest cultural honor, L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and he'd
already topped charts in a diverse range of
countries, including not only the entire
Spanish-speaking world, but also such
unlikely markets as Germany, where his 2005
single "La Camisa Negra" was a number one
hit. Plus, he'd toured the world seemingly
without end in support of Mi Sangre (2004),
expanding his fan base to such an extent
that Universal chose to release "Me Enamora,"
the lead single from La Vida...Es un Ratico,
to media outlets in 77 countries. All of
this was accomplished without singing a word
of English, for despite his renown and
multinational appeal, Juanes chose to sing
only in his native Spanish, not even
recording alternate versions of his songs
for the enormous English-language market.
Eagerly anticipated by fans and industry
insiders alike, La Vida...Es un Ratico is a
step forward for the Columbian rocker in
terms of artistry. As expected, the album
brims with earnest songwriting, heartfelt
singing, dexterous guitar playing, and
glimmering production. An undercurrent of
Latin rhythm is well evident on most songs,
especially "Me Enamora," "Báilala," and "Tres,"
and there's a good balance of rockers as
well as ballads; for instance, the album
opener, "No Creo en el Jamás," kick-starts
the album with a surge of forward momentum,
while the back-to-back sequencing of "Minas
Piedras" and "Tú y Yo" is a lulling
mid-album pivot. Sequenced before that
mid-album pivot is a run of standout songs
("Me Enamora," "Hoy Me Voy," "La Vida...Es
un Ratico," "Gotas de Agua Dulce," "La Mejor
Parte de Mí"), each stylistically distinct
and memorably melodic. The centerpiece of
this run (i.e., the title track) is also the
centerpiece of the album; a passionate piano
ballad about life, love, and family, and
about how time is fleeting, the song "La
Vida...Es un Ratico" (which, in English,
translates to "Life Is a Moment") is among
the most striking and poetic of Juanes'
career to date, up there with "A Dios Le
Pido." As a whole, La Vida...Es un Ratico is
as just impressive as his past albums,
though following the incredible acclaim and
popularity of Un Día Normal (2002) and Mi
Sangre, it's no surprise at this point in
time that Juanes is capable of such mastery,
not only as a singer/songwriter, but as a
guitarist and co-producer. If anything, the
distinction to be drawn between La Vida...Es
un Ratico and its predecessors is that
Juanes has turned his focus inward here,
writing more about his own life than the
world surrounding it, and also that his
songs are increasingly driven by his lyrics
rather than his guitar.
Juanes...with
'Me Enamora"...

CromaLatina A Salsa Band born in 2000 in
Cattolica (Italy) in a zone called Riviera
Romagnola where Music and dance is a
Tradition.
The
band is formed by 8 members all with
important musical experience: Fausto Olmi
at the piano, Leader and founder of the
band, Matteo Salvatori, Marco Roveti in
percussion, Renato Pignieri, Oscar Palmieri
and Yasser Merlet at the wind instruments
and Vocals by Max and Rita.
Cromalatina has contributed enormously to
the evolution of Latin Music in Italy hence
Number one in the Italian Salsa scene. The
band is also the only one to figure in the
American Latin charts as Salsa Made In
Italy. Cromalatina has shared the stage with
many famous International artists such as
Alfredo De La Fè, Jhonny Ray, Jimmy Bosch,
Paulito FG, Frankie Negron, Luisito Rosario,
Henry de Aventura, Toke D’Keda amongst
others.
In
summer of 2004 Cromalatina records a new
single called "Una Nuova Estate" (Un nuevo
verano or A new summer), which is positioned
in the top 30 most danced Latin songs in the
United States, a real achievement given that
the lyrics of this song are in Italian.
The
following year they launch "Cromalatina
Llegò "once again making it to the top
charts both in Italy and the USA, then
initiating artistic relationships with
before mentioned famous names.
In
2007 the moment arrives when the sensational
album titled "Siguiendo La Linea" is
launched under the production of Planet
Records. This is their first launch
featuring important artists such as Luisito
Rosario, Jesus "El Niño" Alejandro, Toke
d’Keda, Henry Santos de Aventura and others.
"Siguiendo La Linea" is definitely a
masterpiece combining the sensuality of both
Latin languages "Spanish and Italian"
together with the sensuous Latin beats such
as Salsa and a touch of Bachata, making a
seamless fusion. A must have for all lovers
of Latin music.

The album also pays
homage to the most influential and
universally respected Latin musicians of the
past fifty years. Some of the artists
joining Estefan on this album include Grammy
award winning artist Carlos Santana, Johnny
Pacheco (whom many refer to as the
'Godfather of Salsa'), trumpet virtuoso
Alfredo 'Chocolate' Armenteros, conga drum
diva Sheila E., actor and musician Andy
Garcia, and Cachao who is credited as the
creator of Mambo.
This blend of musicians on "90 Millas" is
historically significant on a number of
levels. This is the first, and quite
possibly the last time that all of these
legendary artists will play together on one
CD. The newly released first single, "No
Llores" features guest performances by famed
Latin musicians Carlos Santana, Sheila E.
and Jose Feliciano; just one of the
incredible collaborations found on this CD.
Being completely in Spanish, this further
enriches and allows listeners who are not
fluent in Spanish to truly appreciate all
aspects of this album. The music, the
rhythms, the beat, are typical of Estefan
and the standard that she sets forth in her
music.
"90 MILLAS" is a roots album. Its songs
portray authentic Cuban sounds through
upbeat danceable tracks like 'Pintame' and 'Esta
Fiesta No Va Acabar,' to poignant ballads
like 'Yo No Cambiaría' and celebratory
tracks like 'Cuando Cuba Sea Libre.'
Described by Gloria "an amazing explosion of
rhythm," the title track '90 Millas' is
Afro-Cuban - a genre typically recognized by
its use of syncopated rhythm. Of dueting
with La India on this track Gloria says,
"…It was a great feeling in the studio
between her and me because we've wanted to
work together for a long time. And this song
particularly was very special to us because
it is very representative of the wild
rhythms and the differences that we have in
the rhythms of Cuban music.

El
Cantante features Anthony's best
interpretations of ten classic tunes from
different phases of tropical music singer
Héctor Lavoe's legendary career. Showcasing
one of today's hottest stars portraying the
man who redefined Latin music back in the
1960s and 70s.
The sad, tragic story of late Salsa singer
Héctor Lavoe has been told and retold in
various medium, most recently and famously
in the film El Cantante, starring Marc
Anthony and wife Jennifer Lopez. Anthony is
also the lead, so to speak, of the film's
soundtrack, a collection of songs
popularized by Lavoe, who became one of
Salsa's most fabled vocalists during his
tenure with the Fania All-Stars.
The Fania influence is pervasive in this
set, where tracks are penned mostly by Ruben
Blades, Willie Colón and Johnny Pacheco, and
new arrangements decidedly hark back to
their 1970s and early 1980s origin. Even
Anthony admits that in performing these
songs; classics for many Salsa fans, he
tried to get into Lavoe's mind, studying his
phrasing and interpretations in detail. As a
result, this album works both for those who
are only discovering Lavoe as well as for
those who are die-hard fans and want to hear
the songs in new versions. For fans of
Anthony alone, it is a departure in
interpretation; here, the singer opts for a
more sober, matter of fact delivery than the
more emotional delivery he is known for.
Although the first single off El Cantante is
"Mi Gente," the album kicks off with the
title track, which is really Lavoe's letter
of introduction. After an intro reminiscent
of Ruben Blades' Plástico (Blades wrote this
track), Anthony launches into this
biographical rumination, a complex melody
over dueling strings, percussion and piano.
As with "Plástico," there is not a chorus
but rather a repetition of verses which
later dissolve into lengthy improvisations
and soneos (vocal improvisations).
Perhaps the best-known dance track here is "Che
Che Colé," a Willie Colón composition with
multiple layers of percussion and
distinctive horn riffs.
Fans of Jennifer López may want to jump to
the end of the album for "Toma de Mí," the
track that was used for the film's end
credits. It is a pop ballad written
expressly for López, and its genre brings a
touch of universality to this collection.
It was this clever blend of mundane and
stylish that made Lavoe so appealing, and
that still works today.

Spanish
Harlem Orchestra's third release isn't
appreciably different from their first two,
but that's not a criticism; as before, the
13-piece orchestra delivers a nonstop volley
of pure neo-retro Salsa Dura that couldn't
possibly be improved upon. Led by pianist
Oscar Hernández, SHO takes its cues from the
heyday of Tito Puente, Machito and the other
revered Latino bandleaders of the mid- to
late 20th century. The coordinated horn
blasts snap in and out with regularity, the
percussion is endlessly dizzying, the
nuanced solos impressive and the vocalists
all engaging. Most of the tunes here are
originals, and the arrangements by
Hernández, vocalists Willie Tórres, Ray de
la Paz and others are polished to
perfection. Paul Simon is the big-name guest
star this time out taking a lead vocal on
the album closer, his own "Late in the
Evening" is actually the weakest track on an
album that otherwise has none, if only
because it feels out of context. But not to
worry; this is Latin dance music the likes
of which is rarely heard anymore, and that
in itself is worthy of celebration.
In the late ’60s and early ’70s, before
there were a half-dozen Latin charts and
twice as many subgenres, the essence of
Latin music, at least on the East Coast, was
Salsa. With musicians and ideas traveling
back and forth on a kind of San Juan/New
York shuttle, the heart of Salsa was Spanish
Harlem, where Afro-Caribbean rhythms blended
with the beat of the streets and the call of
the dancehall. Oscar Fernandez brings that
sound and spirit back without kneeling to
nostalgia or compromising with current
trends. The fundamentals are all here;
clearly enunciated piano vamps, chant-and-response
vocals, trumpets and trombones blazing
upfront and the rhythms of congas, bongos,
timbales and maracas. The SHO’s elegant yet
muscular ensemble playing makes this classic
style sound as vivid and magnetic as ever.
On United We Swing, Spanish Harlem Orchestra
continues in the same
classic-meets-contemporary sound, but with
refreshing originality. Nine of the songs
are original compositions grounded in the
unique identity the band has forged based on
the musical legacy of 'El Barrio', a
pulsating Eastside community in NYC located
to the south of 125th St that gave rise to
Boogaloo, Latin Soul and Salsa.
This album has something for everyone.

Reggaeton is a very
formulaic style of music. It generally
contains a "dem bow" rhythm and Spanglish
rapping.
Daddy Yankee was a rapper before he realized
the future was in Reggaeton, so it's not out
of character for him to attempt to bridge
these two sounds on in this release.
When 2004's BARRIO FINO became one of
Reggaeton's best selling albums, and one of
the genre's defining documents, Daddy Yankee
was elevated to iconic status. That status
was helped by the release of BARRIO FINO EN
DIRECTO, a set of live recordings, videos,
and new singles released in 2005, but fans
had to wait until 2007 for a new studio
album. That wait was rewarded with EL
CARTEL: THE BIG BOSS, a collection that
arguably tops the now-classic BARRIO FINO in
ambition and appeal. At 80 minutes and 21
tracks, EL CARTEL is a sprawling
achievement, offering up no shortage of
skittering, head-nodding beats,
lightning-quick rhymes, and colorful,
genre-twisting samples. The album features
numerous collaborations with U.S. pop
musicians, including Fergie, Akon, William,
and others, ensuring Daddy Yankee's
crossover success with English-language
audiences, and broadening the artist's
already widespread international appeal.
Over half the album's tracks sound
tailor-made for the singles chart, and its
wild, danceable grooves and top-tier
production throughout makes it a prime
candidate for the summer party album of
2007.

After 14 albums, Chayanne (born Elmer
Figueroa de Arce) is back with the next one
"Mi Tiempo" (My Time) out on April
2007 via Sony BMG. It was born out of the
hands of producers Jose Gentile and
Sebastian de Peyrecave.
Chayanne has spread his music influence
throughout North and South America and
Spain. He has had 8 hits in the #1
Billboard's Hot Latin Charts. With the new
album, he may have another one as it still
employs his trademark: romantic ballads
mixed with up-tempo material. "I like to
stay close to my truth," he said.
He further explained, "I'm not going to test
the waters with something like heavy metal
because that's not who I am. I'm a person
who was born on an island and has traveled
throughout Latin America many times. So, I
can work fusions with these rhythms because
I've been there. I wanted to do something
that could travel throughout Latin America
but within the backbone of my style, which
is pop."
And as usual, he would be touring in US to
promote this latest piece starting from
April 2007. He sets a plan that the singles
from the album will be released for the
first time in each tour. For example, the
ballad "Si Nos Quedara Poco Tiempo," will
debut live at the tour's first date.
Definitely a must have for the romantic at
heart.

Jennifer Lopez changes
direction on 'COMO AMA UNA MUJER' (How A
Woman Loves). Her first entirely Spanish
album boasts 11 tracks, mostly ballads that
reveal a new maturity and depth in the pop
star's voice and deportment. Elegant,
intense and lush, these songs bypass the
dance floor and aim directly at the heart..
In the hands of producers Marc Anthony,
Estefano, and Julia Reyes, the tracks leave
plenty of space for the star to take command
of these romantic moments and melodies. The
high points (especially "Tu," and the finale
"Adios") are custom-made to set the mood for
thoughts of longing and love, in any
language.
This return to her
Latin roots suits Lopez well, as she warmly
embraces her Puerto Rican heritage without
abandoning her keen pop sensibility. With
top-notch production by Anthony, lauded
Colombian musician Julio Reyes Copello, and
others, this album fully showcases J. Lo's
range, as string-laden ballads ("Me Haces
Falta," "Tu") are balanced out by energetic
dance tracks, most notably the dramatic lead
single "Que Hiciste." Easily one of Lopez's
most impressive and accomplished records,
COMO AMA UNA MUJER finds the singer entering
a new phase with creativity and confidence.
Spanish-speaking fans will enjoy hearing
Jennifer Lopez sing these songs, even if her
delivery is a bit clumsy at times. They will
also find that the lyrics are clearly
enunciated and easy to hear; a perfect
supplement to their vocabulary and verb
conjugation exercises. Sweethearts of any
nationality will understand the message that
love is a complicated, beautiful thing.
Definitely a must have for the romantic at
heart.
