Interview with Rafaga

RAFAGA

TheLatinVoice.com caught up with RAFAGA in an exclusive Interview @ La Voz Latina FM Studios, here is what they had to say. Although the original Interview was in Spanish, here is summarised transcript of the English Version:

TLV: Hi Guys, First of all welcome to Australia

1. Q – Tell us a bit about RAFAGA the band, how did all started?
A – (Sergio & Ariel) It all Started in Argentina in 1994 , with my self and Ariel being the first members we have been going for about 10 years and the band still has it’s original members…It was a concept put forward to us by one of Argentina’s renowned industry personalities and we took off from there, it was like an instant reaction from the public and we just grew from there but it was not until 1997 that we got our big break when for the first time we participated in the “Midem Latino de Musica”in Miami which opened new frontiers for us…our band consists of 8 members who are: Ariel Puchetta (vocals), Mauro Piñeyro (instruments), Sergio Aranda (instruments), Ariel Rosales "Richard" (guitar), Ulises Piñeyro (instruments), Omar Morel (batería), Juan Carlos Fusco "coco" (bajo), Marcelo Rodríguez "pollo" (percusion)

2. Q - What inspired the name RAFAGA
A – (Sergio) “RAFAGA” means a gush of wind, like one of those strong winds that takes everything in it’s path…it’s meaning was very powerful and appealing to us

3. Q - What has been the proudest moment in your career?
A – (Sergio) Well…It’s hard to say ….as musicians we would say every moment in our career is a proud one….our fans make us proud!

4. Q – (Sergio, Ariel & Richard) We know this is your first time in Australia, what do you think about the public so far in comparison to other countries you have toured?
A – Well…we have only been here for a couple of days but what we have seen so far we like, people are very hospitable and friendly…It’s hard to compare with other countries because Australia is relatively new for us and we are probably not as well known as in other countries but so far the reaction has been great…

5. Q - Ariel, as well know you have decided to leave Rafaga to launch your solo career Tell us what prompted your decision to separate from Rafaga, Who is going to replace you?
A – (Ariel) Well…I have been with the Band since the beginning and it saddens me to have to leave, but in life we have to take chances and opportunities that arise. These guys are like a family to me and I am sure our relationship will continue…In regards to my replacement we are currently undergoing auditions and have a few possible candidates…we will have to finalise this once we get back to Buenos Aires

6. Q – Which band or artist do you look up to, what genre inspire you the most?
A – (Richard) mmm…we don’t really look up to any Band or Artist a such…It’s more like we have a lot of admiration and respect for all fellow musicians…we all like different genres…for example I love Rock, Sergio likes Salsa, Ariel likes Cumbia…these combinations I think is what make us unique

7. Q – On a more personal note…if you had a wish to be granted what would they be?
A –(Sergio) I’d have to say peace in the world…I think it is an issue that affects us all

8. Q - Here in Australia we have some very good Latin Bands, some of which play your music, any tips or messages for them?
A – –(Sergio, Ariel & Richard) Yes Guys…Thank you all! We really do appreciate your support…Keep it up, keep making our culture and music proud and never give up!

9 . Q - What would you like to see more or less of the Latin scene around the world?
A – –(Sergio, Ariel & Richard) – More unity and less competition…Latin people are like a big family we should look after each other and be proud of our heritage

10. Q – A message for all the Latin Community in Australia and The Latin Voice.com & Voz Latina public:
A – –(Sergio, Ariel & Richard) – Thank you for making us feel welcome and for all your support…Keep following your dreams and supporting your culture, we hope to see you all on Thursday and Friday night…And to you guys at The Latin Voice.com & La Voz Latina. FM thank you for being there every step of the way…Keep it up!
