The
Salsa Land Cruise was a three-day weekend held on
a secluded recreational island on the Hawkesbury
River. All ninety-five of the participating Salsa
dancers arrived at the wharf in Brooklyn on the
Friday night at around 8pm. After some delay, we
finally boarded the ferry which would take us to
the island located approximately thirty minutes
away.
Once
we all arrived and unpacked, the first of two Salsa
parties would be underway by Salsa DJs RickyRO and
Dwight 'Chocolate' Escobar. Hot salsa tracks were
played all night although much of the crowd left
early, some being too tired.
The
next day Salsa workshops commenced by several of
Sydney's well known dance schools. Workshops continued
throughout the day whilst in between people relaxed
by the pool or played tennis. The scenic views made
the experience a relaxing gateway from the hassle
and noise of the city, we are accustomed to.
The
Second night played itself to another Salsa party.
This time with a more enthusiastic crowd. A highlight
also being the dance performances by Jaime and Yvonne
from Latin Dance Australia as well as a performance
from Dance Dynamics.
Overall,
the whole experience was worthwhile and enjoyable.
It was different and exciting.
